This is the question of the century! Making scripture study goals are like hopping onto a roller coaster that never ends!!! It is fun for the first little bit, but then it just gets annoying. Then annoying turns into aggravating. Then aggravating turns into exhausting. Then exhausting turns into me never riding a roller coaster again – or in this case, never wanting to make a scripture study goal again.
Today I reached out to a few friends on what they do! You may have heard some of these ideas before, but I think a few of them were really worth hearing again.
#1 – Choose to study something that motivates you!
One person said she chooses to study a talk from church leaders each day and then uses their topic as her daily mantra. So if someone was talking about being kind, serving our neighbors, or turning to Christ she keeps that on her mind as her focus. It uplifts and motivates her to be better each day in different ways.
#2 – Know what you are going to study the day before
Half the battle is figuring out what to read. The bible is big and often confusing. This is something I have found to be very useful. If I know what I am going to study it makes the decision to study seem much more doable.
#3 – Find a friend that you feel comfortable talking about your studies with every now and then
This does not have to be someone that holds you accountable. No! This is simply to create an environment where you can get excited about what you read or what motivates you. I hadn’t thought of this idea, but I love it & can’t wait to try it out.
Good luck with studying this week! If you have any scripture study plans that work for you, feel free to share them in the comments below!
