One night, my sister and I were playing games in our room when we were supposed to be sleeping. My parents had some friends over and so they had asked us to behave. First, our mom came down to our room and nicely told us to calm down. Then she told us again! Every time we heard them coming we would jump into bed with our rosy cheeks, sweaty hair, and close our eyes to pretend we were asleep. I think it was the heavy breathing that gave us away, but I’m not sure! Once dad had to come down, we knew we were really pushing buttons!
You will be in big trouble if you get out of bed again! Don’t you dare let me hear you!

After five minutes of silence, I lifted my head off the pillow and used my 7-year-old mind to convince my older sister that getting out of bed was still our best option. I mean come on! Sleeping or learning how to cartwheel? The answer was clear.
So there we hopped, right out of bed. My older sister was the first to demonstrate a beautifully done cartwheel. Being four years older than me, she was also able to calculate the trajectory of her movements. I, on the other hand, was simply learning. In between two bed frames I put my heart and speed into this trick! Unfortunately, all that force flung my head into the wooden bedpost! But before I could wail, my sister covered my mouth with her hands as I screamed. In between cries she grabbed a pillow and stuffed it in my face, looked me square in the eye, and commanded, “Whatever you do, do not go look in the mirror!”
She fled up the stairs to my dad. With her speedy panicked voice, she tried to explain. But before she could finish her sentence she was interrupted by a loud, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! “She just looked in the mirror,” my sister winced to my dad.
