Asking For a Friend
Q: How do you deal with the sadness and boredom of being quarantined during Corona craziness?

Two weeks ago quarantine was kind of fun… Now, I wake up and feel like my best friend is the eggs and toast I make for breakfast. I think they are getting tired of hearing the same old morning stories.
I’ve picked up talking to myself because my husband is RIGHT ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WALL! All I want to do is talk to him, but I am attempting to be a good wife and let him work. He would say that’s been successful about 65% of the time, but I think he is being modest in my behalf. I’d say I’m doing a solid 80.
First, talking to my breakfast. Second, talking myself up… and third. Forgetting to dress myself. I’m starting to get concerned.
I write too much for my own good. I have too much time to think. And sadly, there aren’t enough home projects in the world to make me not miss girl’s nights, talking to strangers face to face, group parties, all of it! Yet, we are still trying!
Here’s what my studly husband & I have tried:
- Pretended we are dog parents of whom do NOT neglect their animal… therefore, we go outside to let our imaginary new puppy relieve himself once per day. Is that how often animals have to go?
- Overindulged in cookie dough! My daily record is 9 cookie dough balls. I can’t explain the panic that overcame me when I realized I was starting tomorrow with only two left! Tonight, I’ll be making more!
- Attempted different music genres! We have listened to song after song! I am still a die-hard Indie Pop lover.
- Renamed Evenings “T.V.enings.” (pronounced Tee-ven-ings): Blindspot. Monk. Baker & The Beauty. Listen to Your Heart. The Voice. Mandalorian. Poldark. & Drop Dead Diva!
- Completed the frame of a puzzle: This took us the entire duration of Frozen II. Not sure if it was an insanely hard puzzle or if we were just really reeeaaaallly into the movie!
To my friends who are also going crazy inside,
Let’s remember this: Though we don’t have control of where we are able to go, whether old favorite places are safe to visit, or how this will/has impacted us overall, we do have control of today.
I have started choosing two or three things to accomplish each day. Whether that be to call a friend, read scriptures, go for a walk, write in my journal, or do something else, taking control of what I do each day and committing to those decisions has helped me feel less anxious, less sad, and less bored!

I hope you are happy, safe, and somewhat sane!
I’m thinking of you all.
