Does anyone else feel like the Bible, though translated to English, is SO hard to understand! I can sort of follow the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John), but outside of that, it seems like an entirely different language. So please know, I am no expert nor do I intend to preach to you. I am simply a Christian trying to see the Bible’s relevance in my life.
All growing up I have heard stories from the Bible, but never really delved into them myself. SO I DID IT! For the first time EVER, I started reading it. Oh, the revelations and roles that each person played to allow Christ’s birth! Then, the power, and impact of Christ’s life mission, the sorrow, pain, agony, and sanctity of Christ’s death. Even the glorified, hopeful truth that Christ lives again – none of these have ever been this real to me before.
Today’s Thoughts:
It’s a beast to figure out what all is going on in these chapters but there are a few lines that really stood out today.
- “And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting.” — When I follow God and listen to His word, I can move forward living that way in confidence that I am doing good. I am living well. A balance to life is a challenge to master. But here I feel like God reminded me I am not alone in the journey. He is going to be alongside me, just like he was there for believers in the past.
- “…with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord.” — Often I look at cleaving unto the Lord as trying to do what is right (more action based). Here, it adds a deeper connection because God invited their hearts to be in it! Discipline of the heart is something I want to work on.
- “I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.” — God trusted these people to share goodness! It’s empowering that with all God’s power and glory, He trusts His imperfect humans to strive for excellence in all aspects of life. Then he is like, okay now show others how do achieve excellence as well! We are really all in this together.
