Time Management: That Thing Humans Master When They Are Dead.
If you are one of those people who have every day planned out then I need your organization skills. If you are one of those people who go with the flow I need your adaptability! If you just live and don’t think, then wait for me at the door because I might need to visit your world by the end of this.
Here are the things I’ve been trying to manage:
Exercise, baby, sleep, meal prep, friends, time for writing, spiritual needs, family, and showering.
I have all these thoughts about what’s urgent and important, less urgent and important, urgent and less important, or less urgent and less important. Pretty sure those categories come from some business class I took one time, but honestly I’m too tired to remember.
Urgent + Important
Showering, taking care of baby, sleeping, eating
Less urgent + important
Writing, Spiritual practices, friends, family, exercise
Urgent + Less important OR Less urgent + less important
NOTHING IS LESS IMPORTANT!
How do you categorize anything that is on your mind as less important? I can work with less urgent, but less important? Come on! If it is fighting for my time, then it IS important…
T.V.?…
ok. I lied.
Urgent + Less important
Text messages, Marco Polo’s, Phone calls, notification bubbles all over my phone
Less urgent + less important
Social media, Television
People. This is a serious breakthrough! All I need to stop doing is wasting time. Easy enough… right? This is amazing. See I told you it was an issue I could work with! Time management just might be possible. If I remember right, business people say,
Prioritize the ‘important’ and do less of the ‘less important’.”
Not sure which is sadder. That I had to write this out to realize it or that it’s going to be really hard to give up the less important!
Why is it so hard to turn off the TV, get off our butts, and tackle the things we value most?
I’d love to hear your answer to this q + your methods for tackling the day!
